Join the ACLU

We can't do this alone.  Please join us and become a card-carrying member of the American Civil Liberties Union.

The ACLU is an enduring guardian of justice, fairness, equality, and freedom, working to protect and advance civil liberties for all people in the United States.

For most of the last century, the ACLU has been at the heart of many of the biggest – and sometimes controversial – struggles for civil liberties in our country. The ACLU makes sure that our basic Constitutional rights – to free speech, to privacy, to be innocent until proven guilty – don’t just exist on paper, but also in practice. The ACLU enforces the vision that these freedoms are guaranteed to every person in this country.

Who is the ACLU? We are the lesbian high school student who refuses to be bullied by her peers and teachers. We are the immigrant father who knows his child deserves the same opportunity as other children to access a college education. We are the peaceful protesters who are arrested. We are the woman whose pharmacist will not dispense emergency contraception. We are the young man who is stopped by police because of the color of his skin. We are the family who is harassed for attending services at their mosque.

We are activists and members throughout the country. We are nearly a century of impact litigation, legislative advocacy, and fearless organizing by passionate individuals in communities across the United States. We are you. Join us.
